Hey Doves! Another year another con season to conquer. I haven't done too many conventions since I switched from doing cosplay to making my little store. However, this past show at the The Big Muddy Mini Maker Faire in St. Joseph, MO got me to thinking about looking into conventions... specifically in Nebraska. I have never been there and it's close by enough to drive to. So there's that.
This was The Big Muddy Mini Maker Faire's second Maker Faire and I was invited by Sandra (the organizer) through email. She had contacted me in November a few weekends before my surgery. I looked at the calendar and made the educated guess (based off info I had heard from my doctors) that I would be walking by that time. It worked out great, I had the help I needed by my friend, Beth, and by the very generous and attentive staff of The Big Muddy Mini Maker Faire. Really guys, I never felt so spoiled and by such an attentive staff. They really make you feel as comfortable as possible and beyond! It was such a great turn out to the show as well even with the impending snowpocalypse warnings. I also need to add that Tim who is the pastor of the Restoration Church that owns the building the faire was the one who suggested me as a potential exhibitor. I forgot to ask where he had even heard of me I was too busy blushing. It's pretty mind-blowing to me the amount of people who know of my work before I even meet them, it's everything I could ever wish for.
Planet Comic Con is on the horizon and I am needed to prep for my two hour demo there. I think that I will do a livestream of the curling process for the wig as that can take a day or two to get all set up then have -that- prepped for the show. I also need sculpt out some hair barrettes, gold roses and other things.
I've applied for Maker Faire KC this year, I'm just waiting to hear if they accept my application. If they decide to have me again this year I am really going to have to pull my weight double time. I lost a year of making things to my surgery and I have nothing new. Every year for Maker Faire for the past 2 years I've tried to almost all new things to show on my table including the mannequin that I dress up. I accidentally broke my mannequin last year by piling too much weight on her so I have to figure that out in my head better.
I'd also like more interactive things at my booth and I have to brainstorm that. Outside of the Valkyrie Britannia stuff, life has been a little bumpy. I'm in a weird transition period with my workplace (day job) and I'm a little worried about it but, it's also one of those I'll cross that bridge when I get to it as well.
So many things to do, much love!
I only know a few people who visit this website from time to time and I've redone it! ...again, for like the 7th time. This website originally started off as a drawing and video editing portfolio site, then morphed into a cosplay and events page for a few years and now i'm redoing it again! Since, I've been making more items to try to sell it's changed into a little storefront page. Perhaps with it being a storefront page that will require me to update it more than just once every 3 to 5 months at a time and really get my money's worth from buying the domain name every year. Speaking of the name that might change in the future as well, I still do cosplay but it isn't my main focus as much anymore, with me making items to sell, I've been stuck at home more and one of the big purposes of this website was to list all the events and photos from those events here. As I said I'm not able to get out that much anymore so my impressive list of events that I used to brag about is going to look really small, lol.
With the increasing amount of armor I've been making I've been getting attention from individuals to either be commissioned or to collaborate for art projects. The most recent one is a projected called the Women of Valor project that will be showcasing different women with diverse backgrounds in warrior-like armor and poses. This is an ongoing project and I hope it has a positive impact on the group of people who are participating in the magic and to everyone who lays eyes on the artwork.
