I know it's August...but~
I've got a serious case of October on the brain!
October~ A time when the leaves change, the days get darker and sales on fabric and costume patterns go out the roof. In the vein of costumes, I'm searching for patterns to make a gown for myself and a long jacket for Kit. We will both be traveling to The Republic in New Orleans, Louisiana for the 26th annual Vampire Masquerade a.k.a. Lestat's Coronation Ball. It makes sense for it to be a coronation as Anne Rice will be releasing her newest book Prince Lestat a few days before the ball. Originally, I was looking for a Christine Daae from Phantom of the Opera look. However, with the 15 hour drive ahead of us, i'd rather not have to pack into the car a cumbersome hoop skirt.
I will most likely be going with a more airy, flowing Akasha from Queen of the Damned look. Kit wanted a gown as well, which would have been fine except the clock is ticking and she's decided on a Brienne of Tarth (Wedding attire) type jacket, that should be an easy creation. Having easier construction for both of these costumes really helps with the time constrains I'm having with moving into a new townhome.
The Masquerade Ball, although exciting, is only one part of why I am going to Louisiana. While Kit and I are down there I'm looking forward to learning about my Cajun ancestry and absorb all the history and atmosphere. My father always said that the mosquito was Louisiana's state bird, now I get to see it for myself!
